COVID19: No policy against the release of #covid19 patients to families for burial



The Lagos state Commissioner for Health,  Akin Abayomi, says the corpse of a COVID19 patient can be released to their family members for burial provided certain guidelines are followed. .



Speaking at a press conference in the state today, Abayomi said the body of a COVID19 patient is released after it is decontaminated, placed in a special body bag and then placed within a coffin that must be seal. The family of the deceased is then given an opportunity to collect the body for burial.

He said the burial must have not more than 25 persons including those officiating.

He gave the explanation after a journalist asked why late Abba Kyari's body was released for burial after the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, had initially said bodies of COVID19 patients cannot be released to families because they are contagious.
